good sire such are the vagaries of
breeding, let alone two. However, Les
Norman (Son of Afella) and son Keith
(WashingtonVC)have kicked that
theory at Bryleigh Stud in Southland's
Lower Mataura Valley, an
internationally acclaimed breeding
ground of champions.
Both stallions have scaled great
heights with Washington VC's son, Im
Themightyquinn, the Southern
Hemisphere's premier pacing
phenomenon and winner of three
Interdominion Pacing Grand Finals.
Bred by David Kennedy of Bayswater,
he is preparing to join Blacks A Fake
as the winner of four Interdominion
finals for Perth trainer Gary Hall.
Southland can feel proud of Im
Themightyquinn (51 wins, $5.2 million)
and his distinguished sire that has
done it the hard way. Incredibly, he is
the sire of 274 winners out of mares
by 95 different sires, a graphic
illustration of the actual horse's pre-
potency. Fluking a good sire is hard
enough, let alone getting two. The feat
in harness racing has been achieved
by Roydon Lodge (Light Brigade and U
Scott), George Youngson (importer of
Hal Tryax and Dillon Hall) and Jim
Dalgety (Bachelor Hanover and Out To
Win), and in thoroughbred breeding,
by Sir Patrick Hogan (Zabeel and Sir
Tristram), Brian Anderton (Mellay and
Noble Bijou) and the late Alex
Chisholm (Balboa and Salmagundi).

There are probably 101 different ways
a good sire can stamp his mark on a
breeder seeking progenitors with the
most complete and sought after
credentials. Two aims would be the
ability win $100,000 or more and the
number of individual Group I winners.
Washington VC passes those demands
with flying colours, with 29 $100,000
winners and 23 Group I winners.
Discerning breeders prefer a sire that
can also leave good fillies and mares
on the track. Foreal (1:55.8), It's Ella
(1:56.4) and Bainfield Washington
(1:50.8) are proof of that.

Natural Destiny stood previously at Willowbend
Stud, Beaudesert, in Queensland. His oldest crop are
4-year-olds and last season, he had 11 individual
winners from 27 individual starters.
Natural Destiny arrived at Phuttocks End on June 3
after being bought by Otautau dairy farmer Bruce
Tapper, a friend of the grey's former Coffs Harbour
trainer, Gordon Yorke.
Tapper, who is a newly licensed owner-trainer, said
Natural Destiny would stand at $3000 plus GST.
After winning the third leg of the triple crown, the
Bernborough Handicap on January 7, 2007, Natural
Destiny was building up for the Cox Plate in
Melbourne when equine influenza shutdown horse
racing in New South Wales in August, 2007.
Natural Destiny returned to racing in Queensland
four months later. He gained a second (Doomben)
and a fourth (Eagle Farm) in two $100,000 races
before injury forced him into retirement.
He won seven of his first nine starts, while the
stallion's career statistics rest at 10 wins from 15
starts. The son of AJC Derby winner Naturalism won
the triple crown in 2006-07 season, the Group III
Summer Stakes, Listed Doomben Stakes and
